February 2015

Grants totalling £3 million have been awarded to museums and galleries across England through the DCMS/Wolfson Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund. The announcement was made today by the Culture Secretary, Sajid Javid, as he visited the Gloucester Waterways Museum - recipients of a £100,000 grant.

The 25 grants, jointly funded by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and the Wolfson Foundation, are awards for renovation and improvement projects.

Speaking at the Waterways Museum Sajid Javid said:

“We are incredibly fortunate to have so many world beating museums and galleries in this country with fascinating collections, many of which have been improved, enhanced and made more accessible by the continuing generosity of the Wolfson Foundation. The DCMS/Wolfson Fund is having a huge impact on museums and galleries across England and helping to ensure they continue to be much loved places to visit.”

Wolfson Foundation Chief Executive, Paul Ramsbottom, echoed the importance of this partnership:

"This partnership between the Wolfson Foundation and DCMS is an exemplar of how a charity and government can work together. We are delighted to be funding so many wonderful projects across the length and breadth of the country."
