£80,000 awarded to Centred (Scotland) to create a thriving workshop in Invergordon

Centred, the largest mental health charity in the Highlands, applied for support to transform a derelict building into a workshop next to their head office in Invergordon.

The Remakery, as the site has been named, will form part of Centred’s drop-in programme, which is open to anyone aged over 16, requires no formal diagnosis and no GP referral. People come to learn practical skills in woodcraft, repair and upcycling alongside older mentors, many of whom have overcome their own mental health challenges.

“This will be a place where people can learn to make and repair things with their hands and find their way back to purpose and community at their own pace.”

David Brookfield, Chief Executive, Centred

£50,000 to create a new furniture shop and restoration hub for older people in Gloucestershire

Finding purpose and connection was also at the heart of the application from Newent Association for the Disabled (NATD). The organisation has been working with older people and people with disabilities in the Forest of Dean for over 40 years. This funding will help to create a furniture resale shop and a new furniture restoration and skills hub. The new addition will allow the charity to accept and restore larger donated items, helping not only to generate income but also provide a space in which to learn new skills and make new friends for older and disabled members of the community.

“Many people describe us as the only place where they feel truly connected to others.”

Lyndon Biddle, Chief Executive Officer, NATD
