Nearly sixty years of supporting end of life care
The Foundation has supported the hospice movement since the earliest days, awarding its inaugural grant in 1969, two years after the opening of the first modern hospice in this country.
Today we announce that ten hospices throughout the UK, including two children’s hospices, share £940,900 in funding through our health and disability programme.
£200,000 awarded to Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS)
Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) receives £200,000 towards the refurbishment of a children’s hospice close to the shores of Loch Leven in Kinross. Co-designed with children, young people and families, the rebuilt Rachel House will provide facilities that better reflect advances in paediatric palliative care.
£67,000 awarded to Little Havens children’s hospice in Essex
Little Havens is designed in an unusual S shape with 251 wooden-framed windows and doors, maximising the views of the woodlands in which it stands.
Funding to Havens Hospices will complete essential renovation work at Little Havens, a 28-year-old children’s hospice set in the woodlands of Benfleet.
Our grant will allow the organisation to complete the replacement of all 251 ageing windows and doors, improving the experience of patients and families while allowing money saved on energy bills to be redirected to frontline services.
