Not to be confused with
It is not uncommon to find organisations or individuals who share a similar name to ours.
In most cases, there is no formal link to the Wolfson Foundation. We thought it might be helpful to list some common confusions (although inevitably this is not a comprehensive list).
Organisations bearing the Wolfson name
There are a significant number of facilities bearing the Wolfson name. Often, these are the result of funding from the Wolfson Foundation, dating back across seven decades. Some of the most common queries we receive are for the Wolfson Colleges at Oxford and Cambridge. Although they received major funding in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and indeed have received subsequent grants, we have no involvement in the governance of the colleges.
In all cases, queries should be directed to them.
Funders with a similar name
Several UK charitable funders, such as the Charles Wolfson Charitable Trust, bear the Wolfson name yet are completely separate in administration and governance.
Again, queries should be directed to these organisations rather than to the Wolfson Foundation.
People in the public domain bearing the same name
A full list of trustees of the Wolfson Foundation is here.
We are sometimes approached about Lord (David) Wolfson of Tredegar who, coincidentally, happens to have the same name but is not connected to the Wolfson Foundation.
Prizes bearing the same name
The Wolfson History Prize
This prize is funded and administered by the Wolfson Foundation, although has its own website.
The Wolfson Economics Prize
This prize, last awarded in 2021, is sponsored by Lord (Simon) Wolfson, and has no connection either to the Wolfson Foundation or the Wolfson History Prize.
