DCMS Wolfson Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund
The Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund was established in partnership with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in 2000 to improve the quality of displays, exhibition spaces, collection interpretation and disabled access in museums and galleries across England.
To date, nearly £40 million has been allocated for the refurbishment of some 336 museum and gallery spaces. The programme is jointly funded by the Wolfson Foundation and DCMS. Grants are made up to the level of £300,000.
In April 2016, this successful partnership was renewed, making £4 million available for refurbishment works. The deadline for applications is 26 August 2016. Full guidance and details on eligibility are available at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/dcms-wolfson-museums-and-galleries-improvement-fund-2016-18
Awards under the most recent funding round were announced in January 2015. A full list of these grants is available here. For more details of these individual awards and their locations, see the DCMS map.
A publication was issued in 2011 looking back at the Fund's achievements over the previous eight years.
