Wolfson History Prize (2008)
The winners of the prizes in 2008, awarded at a reception on 9 June 2009, were:
Professor Mary Beard for Pompeii: The Life of a Roman Town (Profile Books Ltd)
Professor Margaret McGowan CBE FBA for Dance in the Renaissance: European Fashion, French Obsession (Yale University Press)
The winners received £20,000 each.
The judges were Sir Keith Thomas FBA (Chairman), Professor Dame Avril Cameron KBE FBA, Professor Richard Evans FBA and Professor Sir David Cannadine FBA.
The Wolfson History Prize, established in 1972, is awarded annually to promote and encourage standards of excellence in the writing of history for the general reading public. More information is available here.
