Wolfson Foundation wins ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Sector’ Award at the Museums + Heritage Awards 2018

May 2018

We are delighted to announce that the Wolfson Foundation has won a special award at this year’s Museums + Heritage Awards for Outstanding Contribution to the Sector.

The prize, a special category nominated by the judges, is presented exceptionally when an individual or organisation is deemed to have made a significant difference to the cultural/heritage field. It is not given annually.

Paul Ramsbottom, Chief Executive of the Wolfson Foundation, was presented with the award last night at a ceremony in central London.

He said, “It is a very great honour for the Wolfson Foundation to be recognised in this way and we are grateful to the judges.  Our work is only possible because of the remarkable and imaginative work of museums and heritage organisations across the UK.

Our funding of this sector sits alongside our funding of the academic humanities (including a major postgraduate scholarship programme) and our long-standing Wolfson History Prize. History and heritage is important to British culture. We have an ongoing commitment to work with museums and heritage organisations across all regions and countries of the UK. We also feel that it is important for philanthropy to work closely with government.

We hope that this award will help shine a light on some of the brilliant projects and organisations that we have supported.”

The annual Museums + Heritage Awards is in its 16th year and recognises projects of excellence, innovative and ground-breaking initiatives from galleries and visitor attractions across the UK and overseas.
