Special Needs: case study
In 2010 Trustees awarded £20,000 to the Swindon Therapy Centre for Multiple Sclerosis. The Wolfson grant was specifically allocated towards a physiotherapy suite within the new premises for the Centre, which has since been named the Wolfson Gym. The physiotherapy services offered allow people to remain as mobile and independent as possible and to stay in work for as long as possible, among other benefits. The number of therapies conducted by the Centre has doubled in the last year from 200 to 400 therapies a month.
The MS National Therapy Centres form an umbrella body of individual charities spread across the UK and Ireland. Examples of other Wolfson funded MS Therapy Centres are:the MS Therapy Centre South West (2011), the Beds and Northants MS Therapy Centre (2010), and the Cornwall MS Therapy Centre (2006). These grants are examples of Wolfson funding to support people with a range of special needs. This is primarily through the funding of buildings or equipment for charities that offer excellent support to people with particular health needs or disabilities, and their families.
