Museums & Galleries
Support for museums and galleries reflects the Wolfson Foundation's strong interest in the country's heritage. From assistance in the acquisition of works of art to improvements to gallery space, the Foundation's work in this area has sought to preserve the country's inheritance and enhance appreciation of collections.
The Foundation has three funding programmes in this area.
First, it has since 2000 provided the majority of its funding through a partnership programme with government (the Department for Culture, Media and Sport). The programme funds the refurbishment of gallery space at eligible museums and galleries.
Secondly, museums and galleries with major capital projects that have a national significance may apply to the Foundation directly.
Thirdly, the acquisition of works of art at galleries and museums has been supported since the 1970s through a joint programme with the Art Fund.
