Upton Hall School on Merseyside was awarded £32,000 in 2010 towards science equipment. The project was partly based on the enthusiasm generated by pupils taking part in the 2008 Shanghai Youth Science and Technology Expo, with the school aiming to build on the scientific skills and confidence gained during this trip.

Developing the 'Expo' theme, July 2012 saw the first Upton Hall 'Science and Technology Expo': allowing older pupils to exhibit to younger pupils about the application of science and technology. It also provided an opportunity to develop research projects based on the model of the Extended Project Qualification. The Capella Dome is an outdoor glasshouse classroom providing a flexible space that will be used for projects as varied as plant life, textiles technology and electrolysis.
