DCMS Wolfson Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund

The Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund was established in 2000 to improve the quality of displays, exhibition spaces, collection interpretation and disabled access in museums and galleries. A publication was issued in 2011 looking back at the Fund's achievements over the previous eight years.

To date, nearly £40 million has been allocated for the refurbishment of museum and gallery spaces through this partnership. The programme is jointly funded by the Wolfson Foundation and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). Grants are made up to the level of £300,000.

Awards under the last funding round were announced in January 2012. A full list of these grants is available here. For more details of these individual awards and their locations, see the DCMS Flickr map.

Invitations to apply for the second round of this programme have now been issued to eligible museums and galleries to submit bids by 5 July. Applications should be made via the DCMS. For information on the application process, please see the DCMS website. All general enquiries should be directed to DCMS in the first instance.
